Welcome to the ARD Lab at Villanova! Our work considers child development in contexts of psychological risk and adversity, such as poverty, homelessness, and trauma. We want to understand how children can succeed despite considerable challenges. By identifying and understanding developmental processes of resilience, we hope to inform prevention and intervention efforts to support children who struggle. Specifically, we focus on positive parent-child relationships, children’s developing capacity for self-regulation, and community resources such as quality early education as protective factors for child and family well-being.
